To help tourists and locals alike celebrate Route 66 and its history in Tulsa, Oklahoma, one local retailer decided to open 66 & Sunny Trading Co. as a new souvenir store in town.

Located in Tulsa’s Mother Road Market food and shopping hall, 66 & Sunny Trading Co. opened in early September and features a mix of Route 66-themed souvenirs and Tulsa keepsakes.

Owner Bert Peake says she had been operating Peake Photography along with My Guys Mercantile for over a decade in Jenks, Oklahoma, providing both photography services and souvenirs and gifts at her store. When the opportunity came up late last year to open a pop-up gift shop at the Mother Road Market, she took it.

“I ventured out last year to Tulsa’s Mother Road Market on Route 66,” she says, describing it as a popular tourist spot. “I had a pop-up there, and it was very successful. They offered me my own store, so that’s what I’ve done.” With the new store, Peake says she has been phasing out her My Guys Mercantile business and moving products from that store to 66 & Sunny Trading Co. as well. The My Guys Mercantile store focused on souvenirs and gifts for men, including quirky coffee table books, grilling spices, hats and more.

In addition to the My Guys Mercantile products, 66 & Sunny Trading Co. offers souvenirs with the Route 66 name drop, plush and decor.

“Route 66 appeals to all walks of life,” says Peake. “Anyone from age zero to 100 can enjoy it.”

The gift shop has also partnered with Kitchen 66, a restaurant and food business also based in Mother Road Market, to include some food items.

Since opening the new gift shop in Tulsa, Peake says she’s excited for the future of her retail business.

“This is such a great opportunity for us,” she relates. “Being at Mother Road Market, we’re expecting to get constant traffic. My vision has become reality, and we are so excited for what’s ahead.”
