Gift for Life, a national charitable organization for the gift, stationery and home decor industry, will kick off fundraising for 2024 at the Winter Atlanta Market event, which takes place Jan. 16-22, 2024, at AmericasMart in Atlanta. Gift for Life has planned two activities tied to the new World Central Kitchen Cookbook and special connection with the market’s Opening Night Party.
Ari Lowenstein, chair of Gift for Life and owner of Ari’s Pantry, will prepare and serve dishes that are featured in the World Central Kitchen Cookbook from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 18 in the Darrah and Co showroom (Building 2, Floor 18) and will host a live cooking demonstration on some dishes from the cookbook from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Jan. 19 in the JURA Demonstration Kitchen (Building 2, Floor 8). For both events, attendees can sample dishes and qualify to win cookbooks donated by publisher Penguin Random House.
With a contribution of at least $20 to World Central Kitchen’s crisis-related hunger relief efforts, donors will qualify to win one of 50 free copies of the cookbook. During the Demonstration Kitchen session, Gift for Life says it plans to award one cookbook that is personally signed by World Central Kitchen founder Chef Jose Andres.
According to Gift for Life, the World Central Kitchen Cookbook is filled with recipes inspired by the places the World Central Kitchen (WCK) Relief Team has cooked following disasters and other crises. Each chapter focuses on one of the group’s core values and shares inspiring stories from chefs, volunteers and communities WCK has helped during times of conflict or crisis. The book also tells stories behind WCK and its network of volunteers and cooks.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to create two food and fundraising events centered on raising awareness for World Central Kitchen and their amazing work around the world,” said Lowenstein. “We hope the industry will join us and share this experience.”
As an extension of the cooking events, Atlanta Market’s Market Kickoff Party, which takes place from 6-7 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Building 3 Atrium, will benefit Gift for Life and WCK.
ANDMORE, owner and operator of Atlanta Market, plans to match donations up to $2,500 made to WCK. According to Gift for Life, the organization aims to raise at least $5,000 through these fundraisers, along with a match from Atlanta Market.
