The Asia American Trade Show

ICLA Announces Agreement with Emerald Expositions, LLC
Late last year, The International Collegiate Licensing Association (ICLA) and Emerald Expositions, LLC (Emerald Expo) announced an agreement to co-locate the ICLA Winter Symposium with the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show (SLTS) held in Las Vegas, Nev., in January of 2018 and 2020.
“Our members have attended the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show in increasing numbers over the past few years which led us to start discussions with SLTS. We surveyed our membership and we will now alternate our Winter Symposium meetings between Sports Licensing Show and CAMEX,” said Robin Cooper, ICLA immediate past-president and assistant director of licensing and trademarks at Indiana University. “The SLTS staff has been very welcoming and great to work with and we know they are equally as excited to host our group in conjunction with their tradeshow.”
“We are extremely pleased to be hosting the ICLA’s Winter Symposium in 2018 and 2020 and hope this is the beginning of a very long term working relationship” said Pat Hus, show director and vice president at Emerald Expositions. “Collegiate licensing has become one of the cornerstones of the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show and we see nothing but growth for this category.”
The SLTS is the premier event for brand owners, licensors, licensees and retailers interested in sports licensed products. The show features nearly 400 exhibiting companies that represent every possible product category and covers all of the major professional leagues.
“There has always been a perception that there should be a greater connection between the professional sports licensing industry and our collegiate licensing industry,” said Rachael Bickerton, ICLA president and director of Trademark Licensing and Enforcement at Boise State University. “As the leading professional organization for collegiate licensing, we are excited about the opportunities this partnership with SLTS gives us to learn from the professional sports industry and increase our interactions with the pro leagues, major retailers and licensees.”
Through the new agreement, the ICLA Winter Symposium will consist of two days of educational programming and networking opportunities on the front end of the SLTS. ICLA members who are not exhibiting will receive a complimentary SLTS walk around registration to access the tradeshow floor. This is a very similar setup to the current CAMEX partnership. ICLA will continue its long-standing and valuable partnership with the CAMEX Tradeshow in 2017, 2019 and 2021. The 2017 ICLA Winter Symposium will take place in conjunction with CAMEX, March 3-7 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Specific details regarding this event can be found on the Winter Symposium web page.
Toy Industry Foundation
Local Toy Companies, Toy Industry Foundation and National CASA Team Up for Play Your Part Event
More than 300 Chicago-area children living in foster care received brand-new toys and enjoyed a fun afternoon of play today at a special “Play Your Part – Chicago” event hosted by the Toy Industry Foundation and the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (National CASA). Held at Guaranteed Rate Field, the memorable day was made possible thanks to generous toy industry volunteers, donors, and sponsors from more than two dozen local toy companies.
Children awaiting placement in loving, permanent homes picked out their own toys and games from a wide selection of arts and crafts, board games, books, dolls and more. The afternoon also included kid-friendly activities and games led by volunteers at company-sponsored activity stations. In addition to providing toys to the children at the event, the Foundation is donating more than 11,000 toys valued at over $150,000 to thousands of additional foster care children in the Chicago area to help celebrate birthdays, holidays and other special occasions.
“It’s heartwarming to see how a simple toy, game, or stuffed animal can provide so much comfort to a child in foster care,” said Jean Butler, executive director at the Toy Industry Foundation. “That’s why our partnership with National CASA is so important. Thanks to the generosity of the entire toy industry, we have been able to provide more than $3.7 million in toys to over 370,000 foster children since 2013. This year’s Play Your Part event in Chicago was yet another success, bringing the gift of play to thousands of deserving children.”
In addition to providing hundreds of thousands of toys to children in foster care, the Toy Industry Foundation has provided $1 million in grant funding to National CASA, enabling them to support recruitment and training of CASA volunteers to stand up for the needs and rights of abused and neglected children in the court system.
“Play Your Part is a special event not just for the children who received toys but also for the staff and volunteer advocates in our nationwide network,” said Michelle Olson, chief advancement officer at National CASA. “It is encouraging to us that so many members of the toy industry came out and gave their time and energy to help make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children.”
The Toy Industry Foundation works year-round with partners and international charities to bring new toys and games to children who are impoverished, at-risk, in hospitals, in military families and otherwise in need. To date, the Foundation has provided $200 million in toys to 23 million children in need.
The playthings distributed at Play Your Part – Chicago and being provided to thousands of local children in foster care were kindly donated by manufacturers, retailers, and distributors to the Foundation’s Toy Bank. Event sponsors were American Plastic Toys, the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA), Educational Insights, Fibre-Craft, Intertek, Learning Resources, MegaFun, PlayMonster, TOMY, Toy’N Around, T.S. Shure, and VTech.
The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) is a 501c3 children’s charity whose mission is to provide joy and comfort to children in need through the experience of toys and play. TIF serves children who are undergoing complicated medical procedures, enduring temporary home placements in the foster care system, suffering from abuse or neglect, experiencing separation from a deployed military parent, or have had their lives disrupted by a devastating natural disaster. To date, TIF’s signature program, The Toy Bank, has provided $200 million in toys to 23 million children in need around the globe, thanks to its generous toy donors.

Las Vegas Souvenir & Resort Gift Show, Pendleton® To Co-Host Silent Auction Benefiting American Indian College Fund
Networking Fund-Raiser Kicks Off New Native American Pavilion at the September 13-16, 2017 Edition
Headlining the full roster of promotions and cultural demonstrations surrounding the 2017 Las Vegas Souvenir & Resort Gift Show’s Native American Pavilion debut at the Las Vegas Convention Center, a special Silent Auction Networking Event will be held from 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 14 to raise funds for the American Indian College Fund. Sponsored by Pendleton®, the special gathering gives attendees the chance to mix, mingle and explore the show floor’s newest feature, while enjoying refreshments and bidding on fabulous auction items donated from Pavilion artisans as well as other show exhibitors and souvenir industry members.

Silent Auction bidding begins at 9 a.m. on the opening morning of the show, Wednesday, September 13, and will close at 5:30 p.m. Thursday during the networking event. The new Native American Pavilion will bring together the works of Native American artisans and other tribal sources/suppliers across a range of merchandise categories, including jewelry, apparel, artwork, food products, music and health/beauty. Among the Native American vendors already confirmed for the 2017 Pavilion include Rio Grande, Kachina, Taos Drums, Supersmith, Shima of Najavo, Medicine of the People, First American Traders, Shiprock, Trickster, Shotridge, RL Cox Co. and Myth Makers. In addition to the Silent Auction Networking Event, the pavilion will also host daily cultural demonstrations such as music and jewelry-making, story-telling and a number of other events and programs.
The Native American Pavilion is just one of the newest features joining the 12th annual edition of the Las Vegas Souvenir & Resort Gift Show. Other highlights include new Gourmet and Boardwalk sectors, more Made in America resources and a special keynote address from Frank Ruggles, artist, author and former official photographer for the National Park Service.
