2019: A Time for Change and Optimism

Scott C. Borowsky

A New Year brings new optimism for creating your best business possible. One way to accomplish your goals is to seek out new connections and products at trade shows. Members of the SGN team will be attending many of the shows in January, and we hope to see you there.

For the first issue of the year, we bring you many interesting stories covering all the major merchandise categories. Our special sections give you an in-depth look at all of the goods that stores are currently stocking, and will hopefully spark your imagination to add a category or two to your mix.

In the Candles, Scented and Bath and Body Merchandise section, we offer stories on candles, personal care products and more. And in the Jewelry, Gifts and Souvenirs Section, there are articles on these products at jewelry stores and boutiques, resorts, public lands partner stores, state parks and botanical gardens.

In each issue of SGN we offer extensive coverage of the apparel and accessories marketplace, especially as it applies to smaller boutiques where merchandise if often carefully curated. For example, in this edition we feature a story on the top trends in jewelry sales at apparel stores and boutiques with a bonus sidebar on larger and smaller jewelry piece choices. We also cover big-selling T-shirts with an informative look at this category in museum stores.

We also closely examine the retail picture at coastal and resort stores. In this issue’s “Coastal, Country and Quality Gifts and Home Décor Section” we offer a story on sea-themed gifts, quality gifts and home décor items including a look at the demographic who buys home décor merchandise.

Other store types we feature in the book are hospital, Hallmark, inspirational, museum, variety, general, zoo, aquarium, toy, Halloween, pet, baby, gem and mineral and others.

And, as a special bonus, Contributing Writer Susan Mease profiled the Three Bears General Store in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., in one article and conducted a question-and-answer interview with vendor Simply Southern in a separate piece.

In addition to the magazine, SGN keeps in touch between each issue with bonus product and vendor email blasts. Please send your email to: editorsgnmag@kanec.com to get on the list to receive these informative information sources. Once we have your email, you will also receive our eNewsletter. In the eNewsletter you will find a bonus original article plus a helpful summary of the current print issue.

I hope you enjoy the magazine. Please call 610-645-6940 or email editorsgnmag@kanec.com with your comments, questions and suggestions and I will take your call or answer your note personally.
