Toys that Sell Handily

A Puppet Sales Snapshot

“Puppets go back to the beginning of human history,” said Shane Rhinewald at The Strong National Museum of Play. “It’s one of the simplest forms of play from centuries and centuries ago.”

The manually animated figurines are still popular today, Rhinewald said. For the primary audience of toddlers and small children at Everything For Play!, hand puppets sell well as they have the most natural fit for small children and toddlers, he added.

Most puppets retail in the $4.99 to $19.99 range, according to store Manager Jessica Silva, who said varieties that tie into an exhibit sell particularly well. Other surefire winners are Sesame Street puppet characters such as Elmo, Cookie Monster and Big Bird. Melissa & Doug puppets are also big sellers, with occupation themes like chef, fireman and others selling well.
